About Samuga

Why we started

Travelling between islands here can still be harder than it needs to be. You want to know when the next boat leaves, whether it's running today, and if there's a seat left — and often the only way to find out is to ask around, message a few people, or hope someone remembers the timing correctly.

We've all done the group-chat scramble the night before a trip. It works, sort of. But it shouldn't be the system a whole country relies on.

Samuga started because we think getting from one island to another should be simple, transparent, and open to everyone.

We're not trying to build another booking platform for the sake of it. We want to modernise how people move across the Maldives — and make the day-to-day a lot easier for the operators who keep those boats running.

Our story

Our journey

Samuga wasn't a lightning-bolt idea. It came from paying attention to something everyone around us had quietly accepted as normal.

  1. Step 01

    Noticing the problem

It began with a missed boat and a long afternoon at the harbour. The information existed — it was just scattered across phone calls, notice boards, and memory.

  2. Step 02

    Talking to operators

We sat down with boat owners, captains, and ticket counters. They weren't short on effort; they were short on tools. Bookings on paper, schedules in heads, changes over WhatsApp.

  3. Step 03

    Designing, then redesigning

Countless late nights sketching, prototyping, and throwing things away. Whenever a screen needed explaining, we knew it wasn't finished yet.

  4. Step 04

    Building something useful

Testing with real trips, real passengers, and real edge cases. We'd rather ship a smaller thing that works properly than a big thing that mostly does.

What Samuga does

Four things we're focused on to make island travel a little easier.

Easy ticket booking

Book your speedboat journey through a clean, intuitive experience — pick a trip, choose your seats, done.

Live schedules

Find the trips that are actually running today, without chasing scattered messages or outdated timetables.

Operator tools

Operators manage schedules, bookings, passengers, and the day-to-day of the business from one place.

Designed for the Maldives

Built around how island communities, operators, and travellers actually move — not a template from somewhere else.

A look inside

Quiet, careful, and quick to use

A few pieces of what we've been building. There's more to come — we'd rather show you the finished thing than promise it early.

Our vision

Looking ahead

We'd like Samuga to become the app people reach for when they're travelling across the Maldives — not because it's the only option, but because it's the one that works.

That means improving it steadily: adding routes, supporting more operators, listening when something feels clunky, and fixing it. We're less interested in big announcements than in the small things that make a travel day go smoothly.

If we get this right, most people won't think about us much at all. They'll just get on the boat.
